TMI Tuesdays #12

March 18, 2008

i had a superfantastic long weekend hanging out with friends from college and beyond so this week’s tmi questions are very relevant…

Q 1. in the midst of a hangover have you ever promised to “never drink again?” how long until you broke that vow?
A 1. in the midst of a hangover i will typically say something like “i drank too much last night. maybe i should take tonight off.” but that “vow” generally lasts the number of hours between the time i make it and beer o’clock especially if it’s the weekend.

Q 2. what is the stupidest thing you have ever done while drinking (or not if it is really stupid) but thought it seemed like a good idea at the time?
A 2. i fell off a bike once…that wasn’t moving or anything. for some reason i thought it would be mother fucking brilliant to jump on my friend’s bike. said friend is about five inches taller than me. i got my legs on either side of the frame and immediately fell to the side smacking my chin on a high top table. oh, did i mention i was in front of a very busy bar at the time? did i also mention that i was covered with beer from a spillage incident earlier in the night? um, yeah. classy!!

Q 3. on a scale of 1-10, where do you rate green beer?
A 3. negative zero. green beer is lame. drink a Guinness if you want to act like a drunk irishman.

Q 4. have you ever kissed someone you shouldn’t have (drunk or sober)?
A 4. yes to both. that is all.

Q 5. what is the stupidest thing you have ever seen a drunk do (besides driving a car)?
A 5. probably drink more when they’re already fall down drunk. this is the one bad drinking behavior i try to avoid at all costs.

Bonus Q: how do you cure your hangover(s)?
Bonus A: lots of water, extra sleep (if possible), dense food and EmergenC.

TMI Tuesdays #11

March 5, 2008

Q 1. under what conditions would you kiss a stranger?
A 1. the first condition would be that i wanted to kiss the stranger and the second condition would be that mr. d was there and didn’t mind.

Q 2. who was the last person you sent a text message to?
A 2. i think i sent mr. d a test just before getting home for lunch yesterday.

Q 3. when was the last time you deliberately surprised someone?
A 3. valentine’s day! i picked up a hot little piece of lingerie at the local smut shop and threw it on just before bed. the lights were off as i walked into the room so i straddled prey and threw the lights on – surprise!!

Q 4. how often do walk somewhere?
A 4. i walk the dog at least once a day and walk somewhere (a 1/4 mile from my house or job, maybe?) a few times a week.

Q 5. what were the longest and shortest durations of your romantic relationships?
A 5. what constitutes a “romantic relationship”? i guess the simple answer would be many years to a few hours.

Bonus Q. what is missing from your life?
Bonus A. better TMI questions for one!

TMI Tuesdays #10

February 26, 2008

Q 1. what can you consider as the greatest thing you’ve ever done for/ to yourself?
A 1. immediately after my mom died in 2002 (literally two days after the funeral) i went on a road trip, by myself, in her convertible. it gave me a chance to get lost and explore myself. i was lucky enough to have a beautiful man join me for the last leg of the trip but that’s a story for another day.

Q 2. what/ which part of your life do you think you could have done better and why?
A 2. without a doubt, my teenage years/high school. my depressive state ruled everything in my life and turned me into a pretty pathetic loser. i gave up. and though i have no regrets, wish that i could have seen the light at the end of the tunnel a little sooner.

Q 3. do you have that one person whom you consider to be the wind beneath your wings?
A 3. my mom.

Q 4. tell us about your longest relationship.
A 4. i’ve written about it on this blog. looking back, although the time i spent with that person was significant in number of years it has been insignificant in impact on my life. i did a lot of coasting through life back then. i wasn’t genuinely happy. now that i know what true happiness is (in and out of a relationship) those years seem like a thin brush stroke on the much larger canvas of my life.

Q 5. in a relationship, when do you get to that point of enough is enough?
A 5. i’m not really sure. perhaps i’d know when the work i put in does not equal the pleasure i get out?

Bonus Q. what is that one intimate moment with someone you miss so much and what are you willing to risk to have another moment of it.
Bonus A. thankfully i don’t have to risk anything. i know he’s coming back and that we have a lifetime of intimate moments to share.

TMI Tuesdays #9

February 5, 2008

Q 1. by what nickname(s) were you known as a child?
A 1. ry

Q 2. do you have a favorite poem and, if so, what is it?
A 2. i’ve posted it before here

Q 3. what is your greatest regret in life, something that you failed to do that you wish you did?
A 3. i don’t believe in regrets but i do think that there were times in my life when i could have tried harder but didn’t for no other reason but sheer laziness.

Q 4. you are tired and hungry, but it’s too late to cook. if any snack food were available to you, what would you choose and why?
A 4. a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with doritos (in the sandwich, NOT on the side) would be a top five pick. other things on the top five list would be chef boyardee spaghetti and meatballs (heating in the microwave isn’t really cooking, right?), cheerios with whole milk and bananas, wavy chips and onion dip, and chex mix (the real homemade kind). but, i’m a good eater and haven’t had any of these things in any great quantity in quite some time. i would likely throw some pasta on the stove or heat up something frozen like quorn nuggets. for me, it’s never too late to cook.

Q 5. what is the oldest item of clothing (not jewelry!) that you wear regularly and what do you love about it?
A 5. my adidas shirt. i bought it at a thrift store when i was in high school. it was quite worn when i bought it but i could go bra-less in it ’cause the adidas logo goes right across the chest. now it’s so thin i have to wear a cami or tanktop underneath! but it’s so damn soft and i get lots of compliments on it and it’s vintage and i love it.

Bonus Q: name a movie or TV show that changed your thinking or behavior.
Bonus A: six feet under which started in 2001 – after my father’s death and before my mother’s. i was depressed and anxious and having a very difficult time dealing with my grief. the first episode, for those who don’t recall, introduces you to a family who runs a funeral home.  the father of the family is killed in a car accident and the family is forced to deal with their own grief. one of the brothers in the family starts to ask a series of questions about grief as a social construct, about how so many other cultures do it so much differently than we do.  why, if death is universal, do humans celebrate/mourn it in such varied ways?  it was all so simple yet so pedantic. i was really drawn into the theme of that first episode – grief as a (distinctly western?) social disease? – and i remember having one of those “ah ha” moments. i never watched much more of the show after that first episode but it really helped heal me.

TMI Tuesdays #8

January 23, 2008

Q 1. what was your favorite book as a kid?
A 1. i had two: the giving tree and charlotte’s web. the giving tree was a book i could read myself at a fairly early age and charlotte’s web was a book i would ask adults to read to me at a very early age. i still have copies of both (my original giving tree!). i go back to them often.

Q 2. if you were stranded on that proverbial desert island (again!), what book or books (up to 5) would you want to have with you?
A 2. the prophet by kahlil gibran, the poisonwood bible by barbara kingsolver, the bell jar by sylvia plath, dictionary, and thesaurus.

Q 3. what was the first “naughty” book you read and in what way was it naughty?
A 3. my mom used to leave “naughty” books with titles like “what’s going on down there?” and “where did i come from” around the house. then i found her adult stash which included the original joy of sex, masters and johnson’s the pleasure bond, and a bunch of home crafted zines on sexual health from the 70s with great drawings of uncut peni, bushy beesh and talking diaphragms. THE MOTHERLOAD! then, at about age 8, i saw a penthouse at a girlfriend’s grandparents’ house and i nearly passed out. i’ve loved porn ever since! more porn.  better porn.  naughtier porn!!  my passion for all things porn has gotten me in lots of trouble over the years and makes me question early exposure to explicit sexuality. (note to self: blog more on this)

Q 4. if you were to publish your autobiography today, what would be the title?
A 4. thirty years on

Q 5. would you rather look at nude pictures/pornography or read erotic fiction and why?
A 5. i want it ALL!  see number 3.

Bonus Q. do you know the whereabouts today of the first person with whom you had sex?
Bonus A. i do (myspace is a funny thing). he still lives in the same room we screwed in fifteen years ago. scary.

A 1. bette and tina’s house on the L word.

Q 2. if you had a clone, what would you make it do so you could have free time?
A 2. i don’t think there is one thing in particular that gets in the way of my “free time”. nor is there one thing in my life i loathe so much i would want to give it up forever. i mean, even doing laundry can be zen-like. i imagine if i had a clone i would use it at different times for different things. if i felt like sleeping in with mr. d i’d send it to work. if i wanted to go out with friends but had dishes to do…ya’ll see where i’m going here.

Q 3. who was your best friend when you were 8? when you were 13?
